Suvi Saarikallio is a professor of Music Education at University of Jyväskylä, Finland. Her research expertise involves music psychology, particularly music in youth development, emotional health, and wellbeing. Saarikallio is interested in music as a resource for emotionality, agency, identity, and social interaction. She recently co-edited the Handbook of Music, Adolescents, and Wellbeing (OUP),and currently leads an ERC-funded project MUSICONNECT: Music as youth empowerment – creating connection to self and others. Saarikallio acts as a Co-PI for a Centre of Excellence in Music, Mind, Body, and Brain and as a Co-PI for her university’s profiling area for Social Sustainability for Children and Families. She is the chairman for the Finnish Society for Music Education (FiSME) and the European commissioner for the Research Commisison of ISME (International Society for Music Education).
