SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY AND CULTURAL WELLBEING

Dr. Sanna Kivijärvi and Dr. Sunny Choi

The event consists of a lecture and discussion on three topics:

  • Introduction to cultural wellbeing as a field
  • Case: Technology, creativity and ageing
  • Towards sustainable ways of living through creativity- and arts-related activities

The lecture is part of the Studia Hiilitalli lecture series by Metropolia UAS, which offers possibilities to develop your understanding of sustainable societal solutions, provides multidiscplinary perspectives on sustainable development, and empowers you to engage in challenging discussions around these topics.

Hiilitalli is a sustainable development learning and project space located at Metropolia UAS Clean and Sustainable solutions innovation hub, and it is co-funded by Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council and by EU under the ERDF through the Carbon Busters project from 1.1.2023-31.12.2024.

Introduction about lecturers

Dr. Sanna Kivijärvi is an interdisciplinary researcher and senior lecturer based at Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, and at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki where she leads international research projects and teaches and supervises students at master’s and doctoral levels. She also oversees a transdisciplinary master’s degree programme, Creativity and Arts in Social and Health Fields in Metropolia, and serves as a co-editor for Nordic Research in Music Education.

Dr. Sunny Choi graduated with a Ph.D. in music education from New York University. Her dissertation research was conducted in Helsinki, where she explored the topic of musical habits of classical piano students and their identity development from the process of acquiring an unfamiliar topic, improvisation. Sunny developed her career in the field of digital education over the years and worked for a number of startups abroad. She is currently actively pursuing ways of developing her passion for transforming our society as a more digitally inclusive one for the elderly population.
